Investigation Findings
Government officials revealed that the jet’s left wing ignited and an engine separated soon after liftoff from the aviation hub, leading to the aircraft to crash and burst into a fireball.
The NTSB has said it is probing the jet’s service record, that was in the state for repairs weeks prior to the accident.
Aircraft data indicated the jet was on the ground in that location from early September to last week.
“We are aware that this jet was there in the facility,” said an official on the following day, not giving a precise period. “We will review each aspect of repairs that was performed, including the Texas period, all the way to the date of the trip.”
Findings of Vital Evidence
The pilot’s recorder and flight data recorder were found, and the engine was located on the runway.
The units – called black boxes – were built to withstand collision damage and intense temperatures from blazes, and they seemed to be in one piece when discovered among the wreckage. Investigators will examining data from the devices.
The plane’s final data recordings indicated an altitude of 475 feet and a speed of 210 mph prior to the crash.
Service History
According to aviation authority records from that date, a fracture on a part in the fuel container needed repairs.
Headquartered in Singapore ST Engineering, which said it supplies airframe maintenance for UPS’s MD-11 and manages a maintenance center in Texas, refused to provide remarks, but expressed it would work closely when investigators contacted it.
Activities Restart
In the meantime, the facility operations restarted Wednesday night with its express or evening procedure, official a representative said. All three landing strips at Louisville Muhammad Ali international airport were also open again.
