Paris Saint-Germain Edges Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Lift French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now secured the season-opening cup on 14 different times.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to get past Marseille in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders appeared to be sailing towards a straightforward win in the match featuring the Ligue 1 winners and the French Cup winners after the French winger found the scoring early on.

Yet, Marseille struck two times in the closing moments to seize a shock advantage. Initially, Mason Greenwood scored from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of fortune, the Portuguese striker snatched a vital equaliser in the dying moments to send the match into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping crucial attempts from O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored with composure for PSG to complete a convincing penalty win.

The record champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now lifted this competition for the twelfth time in the past 13 seasons.
